Journal Impact Factor (JIF)

The Journal Impact Factor (JIF) is a journal-level metric calculated from data indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection. This identifies how often an average journal article is cited in a particular year. 

It is calculated as the ratio between the Citations to recent elements of the journal and the Number of recent articles of the same. 

Journal Citation Indicator (JCI)

It is the citation impact, normalized, of the average category of citable items published by a journal over a recent three-year period. The average JCI in a category is 1. Journals with a JCI of 1.5 have 50% more citation impact than the average in that category. 

It is calculated as the ratio between the Citations to recent elements of the journal and the Number of recent articles of the same.
